While Abidjan continues to evolve and develop, the public transportation system is yet to receive its upgrade leaving taxis as the most recommended choice for getting around the city for work and pleasure.
The locals in Abidjan prefer using the minibusses called WoroWoro or the yellow taxis, which are typically shared, have multiple stops, and are subsequently much cheaper to ride.
When going to and from work, most of our clients at Gaia’s Garden prefer the orange city taxis or private ones like Uber. The most popular options include the following:
All three offer a mobile application you can download on both Apple and Android devices and conveniently book and pay for your rides in Abidjan. Our recommendation to our guests would be Yango. Firstly we use it ourselves, and secondly, it offers a broader range of prices and comfort options to suit all needs. For example, you can go for a cheaper basic ride (red taxi without A/C) or a comfort ride, usually a private car with A/C. Using this option is also much safer as it is less hectic, and you will not have to go through the price negotiation process.
Note: If you ever decide to take a city taxi, always ensure that the taxi meter works or agree on the price before boarding the taxi.
The next option is to rent a vehicle in Abidjan, and we do receive occasional requests for this from our guests. In such situations, we can:
- Put you in direct contact with two private car rental services that we know are reliable
- Arrange the rental directly on your behalf.
It is also important to note that the rental price will always include a driver as it is not allowed to rent a car otherwise. While this could be perceived as unusual, it is helpful because driving in Abidjan can get hectic.
To conclude, the best way to get around Abidjan is definitely by car, whether by taxi or rental, and we will always do our best to advise you on the safest and most cost-effective option.
